Why I Made This Site

The real answer is, I don't exactly know why I started coding this site.

Maybe I just wanted my own space on the internet where I can put the things I build, learn and experiment with.

Maybe I need a space to publish my work and experiments

I think one of the main reasons I created this site is to upload my experiments, projects and new ideas.

Instead of keeping everything on my computer or forgetting about it after a few months, I can put it here. I can also easily show my work to friends or anyone who is interested.

I like experimenting with coding and connecting it with real-life things. Most of the time, I am trying to automate something, save time or make a process more efficient.

Not every experiment becomes a serious project. Some things work, some don't, and some stay unfinished. I still want to keep a record of them.

Maybe I want to improve my writing

Another reason is writing.

I want to improve how I write sentences, paragraphs and explain my thoughts.

Writing about something also forces me to understand it better. If I cannot explain what I made or why I made it, maybe I don't understand it properly myself.

So this site is also a place where I can practise writing while documenting my work.

Maybe I want my own custom apps

I like making tools that work the way I want them to work.

I have a server at home running 24/7 where I host some of my custom apps.

For example, I have experimented with things like a music streaming app, movie and media tools, PDF tools and other small utilities.

Sometimes the reason is simple: existing software costs money, has features I don't need, or doesn't work exactly the way I want.

So instead of always searching for another app, I sometimes try to build my own version.

Apps for my farm

Some of the more useful things I am building are for our dairy and agriculture work.

I have made apps for managing workers, the dairy farm and agricultural operations.

The workers app is already being used and has given good results. Earlier, I had to manually calculate attendance, wages and advances.

Now I mostly just mark attendance. The app calculates how much money is owed to each worker, keeps track of advances and helps me decide how much money to give them.

That is the type of software I find most interesting: simple tools that solve an actual problem.

Dairy and agriculture apps

The dairy farm and agriculture apps are still under development.

The dairy app can record milk sales and information about animals. Some parts are working, but overall I would say it is only around 50% useful right now.

The biggest problem is actually not the code.

It is me.

I don't enter the data regularly. I skip days, and once the data is missing, the system becomes less useful.

The agriculture app has a similar problem. Some parts work, but I am still figuring out what information is actually worth recording and what just creates extra work.

This is something I am slowly learning: making software is easier than making a system that people actually use every day.

So why does this site exist?

I still don't have one perfect answer.

Maybe it is a portfolio.

Maybe it is a blog.

Maybe it is a record of my experiments.

Maybe it is just my own corner of the internet.

For now, I want to use it to show the work, show the thinking behind the work, and keep my experiments separate from the projects that become serious.

I will probably understand the real purpose of this site after using it for a few years.
