PlateTrail

A completely unnecessary app for remembering where I keep seeing the same cars.

Concept illustrationExperimental & Fun

What is PlateTrail?

PlateTrail is basically a vehicle-sighting diary. If I keep seeing the same car, bike or tractor somewhere, I can record it and later see how many times our paths have crossed.

Why does this exist?

There is no serious answer. I saw vehicles, remembered some number plates and thought: what if I make an app for this? A normal person would forget about the idea five minutes later. I opened VS Code.

The idea

Add a vehicle when I see it, record another sighting when it appears again, and slowly build a completely useless history of vehicles that somehow keep appearing around me.

Possible discoveries

Maybe I discover that one white Swift exists everywhere in Punjab. Maybe the same tractor passes me every Tuesday. Maybe I learn absolutely nothing. All three outcomes are acceptable.

Current status

Still building it. Like many of my experiments, there is a reasonable chance I spend more time making the interface look good than actually using the app.

Timeline

THE PROJECT SO FAR
  1. SEP 2026

    Random idea appears

Saw the same vehicle a few times and somehow decided this needed an entire app.

  2. NOW

Building it for no good reason

Currently turning a problem nobody asked to solve into another project running on my server.

Keep exploring.
